How to Use Manganese Stain Treat for Pool Discoloration

Manganese Stain Treat™

Objective

This guide explains how to remove and prevent dark manganese stains from your pool surface using Manganese Stain Treat™.

Mistaking Manganese for Algae

Manganese stains typically manifest as dark brown, purple, or black spotty discolorations. Because of their dark color, they are frequently misidentified as black algae. However, if a chlorine tab scrub doesn't lighten the spot, it's likely a metal stain. Manganese Stain Treat™ is a targeted formula designed to isolate and lift this specific mineral from your pool finish safely and efficiently.

Prerequisites

  • Verify that the stains are indeed metal-based and not black algae before treating.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. System Prep: Ensure your pool filter is clean and the pump is running in the ON position.

  2. Calculate: Find the recommended dose on the brown Manganese Stain Treat™ label.

  3. Targeted Application: Apply the product to the pool water. If you have concentrated black/brown spots on a specific step or bench, pour the product directly over that area.

  4. Run Pump: Keep the water circulating for a minimum of 24 hours.

  5. Filter Maintenance: Backwash or clean your filter thoroughly to wash the sequestered manganese out of your pool system completely.

Troubleshooting Note: To prevent manganese from returning, especially if you fill your pool from a well, consider incorporating a preventative metal sequestering agent into your monthly maintenance routine.
