How do I raise Total Alkalinity ?
To raise Total Alkalinity we recommend using Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate). This will raise the alkalinity more than the pH. We recommend you balance your Total Alkalinity according to your hardness level. You can reference the Hamilton Index for recommended ranges.
Assuming a 10,000 gallon pool, to raise the Total Alkalinity by 10ppm requires 1.25 lbs Baking Soda*.
*It's recommended that you add no more than 1 pound per 10,000 gallons at one time. Doing so could result in some staining. Add the Baking Soda, brush, repeat.
