Copper Stain Treat Guide: Remove Blue/Green Pool Stains

Copper Stain Treat™

Objective

Learn how to effectively remove and prevent copper stains from any pool surface using our guaranteed Copper Stain Treat™.

The Source of Blue/Green Stains

Copper stains usually appear as bright blue, teal, or green discolorations on your plaster, fiberglass, or vinyl liner. These are often accidentally caused by overusing copper-based algaecides or by low pH water stripping copper from your pool heater's internal heat exchanger. Copper Stain Treat® targets these specific heavy metals, breaking their bond with your pool surface without requiring you to drain the water.

Prerequisites

  • Water must be balanced, specifically ensuring pH is within normal ranges (7.2 - 7.6) to prevent further copper precipitation.

  • Remove any automatic pool cleaners from the water during treatment.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Activate Circulation: Navigate to your pool's control panel and click Start or turn the pump to the ON position.

  2. Measure: Refer to the blue Copper Stain Treat® bottle to measure the precise dosage needed for your pool.

  3. Dose the Pool: Pour the treatment directly into the pool water around the perimeter.

  4. Brush (Optional but Helpful): Lightly brushing the stained areas can help the product penetrate the metal scaling faster.

  5. Filter: Run the filtration system continuously for 24 hours to capture the released copper.

Troubleshooting Note: If you suspect your heater core is the source of the copper, please schedule a professional equipment inspection to prevent future staining.
